Brock’s Performance Awaits Indy Final
By: Jack Korpela

Multi-time AMA/Prostar champion, Rickey Gadson, of Team Brock’s Performance Products hopes to build upon his SuperSport points lead by winning the final of the rain-postponed Pingel Thunder Nationals in Indianapolis, IN. It will be Gadson’s second trip to the final in as many events.

“Rickey has been riding the bike very well, but I wasn’t happy with the way it was running in Norwalk, so I spent a lot of time on the dyno between races,” team owner and tuner Brock Davidson said. “We were able to make a few practice laps at the track on Friday, and based on the information from our data logger, we were able to put a pretty good tune-up in it.”

Gadson used the inspired set-up to qualify his 2005 GSX-R1000 in the third spot with a 9.27. After what proved to be a valuable Street Chaos test session for the team on Saturday night, Gadson improved to a 9.21 in Sunday’s opening round to defeat World Thompson.

In round No. 2 Gadson and teammate, Vince Woska, were paired together-something a team hates to see early in the race.

“It’s a bad deal. I prefer to see my guys race each other in the final,” Davidson remarked.

“Unfortunately, it’s a part of racing, and it’s something we have to deal with. At least I know that someone on the team will win, but it’s more of a double-edged sword.”

Gadson advanced past Woska with a 9.29 to Woska’s first gear wheelie-ing 9.69. In the semis Gadson went on to oust Darren Burnett’s 9.47 with a 9.37.

“Rickey cut a better light and was able to stay out in front the whole time,” Davidson said. ‘Our Street Megaphone equipped Gixxer ran well all day.”

With the win, Gadson advances to the final to take on John Hall at the Schnitz Memphis Blues Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park on October 1st-2nd. Although points have not yet been officially tabulated, Gadson hopes to build on the lead he brought to Indianapolis.

“When you factor in the mandatory dropped race, we are still in good shape points-wise. We are trying to be conservative, but Rick is a true racer, and he wants to win every round,” Davidson said. “If we can just keep our head on straight, we can win this championship.”

“I feel very confident because even if you put Rickey on a bike that is equal to the guy in the other lane, he is fantastic at getting the win light. We are making some changes to make our bike even faster for Memphis.”

Brock’s Performance supported rider Phil Stoll suffered an uncharacteristic loss due to a poor reaction time on Ronnie Mitchell’s Mirror Image Hayabusa. A clutch creep problem prevented Stoll’s fantastic 7.47 @ 198.93 MPH (High MPH for the class) from advancing against Trevor Altman in the fourth round of eliminations.
